Elle Cut Out Triangle Nails

Nails Inc Foil Polish in King's Road

I was running low on nail art inspiration when I came across these triangle nails in Elle magazine. I love that nail art is now an important feature in fashion shoots and runway shows. Anyway, these were very simple and I just used some tape to create the clean lines. The great thing about using tape is that you can't mess up on either hand (well, unless you don't stick it down fully like I did on one of my nails). I decided to try out silver polish and I'm not completely sold on the design to be honest, but I think they definitely look better in black.

And my heart was screaming at my bones

Blazer - Mango, Shirt - Mango, Skirt - H&M, Bag - Red Herring

In the boxing day sales, I finally managed to obtain a black blazer. It's not easy to find one that fits well for a decent price so I was extremely pleased with this £20 find from Mango. The lapels sort of refuse to fold back but I think it looks pretty nice like this. I went with a pale pink combination for the rest of the outfit and contrasted everything with my trusty green bag.

I'm still enjoying the Winter Olympics and got really into the women's figure skating today. I did a tiny bit of skating when I was younger so I like to pretend I know what's happening even though I haven't really been following since the last Olympics. There was some brilliant skating  going on and some good and bad surprises, including my favourite Mao Asada falling and ending up in 16th place. At least skaters who fall get back up again, right?

Street Style and Musings - London Fashion Week A/W 2014

I've been hanging around Somerset House the past few days with the intention of taking some street style snaps at London Fashion Week, but I think I've gained more than just a few photos. It was a real eye opener seeing the best dressed of the best dressed. London is of course one of the most stylish cities in the world and you do see a lot of well dressed people walking around. However, seeing them all concentrated in one place, you are confronted with a huge amount of creativity. And it's as intimidating as it is inspiring,  sparking a bit of a big fish in a small pond moment in me. I am aware I'm a really, really small blogger don't get me wrong, but I always felt like I dressed pretty well (in hindsight, school and university are definitely not good places to draw comparisons since most people roll out of bed and throw on what they see first). But damn, these people know what they're doing, and damn, I don't.

Apart from all of that, Fashion Week has to be the best time to people watch. Fashionistas aside, there are hoards of photographers risking their lives to get their shots. I saw some running out into the road in front of cars for a good angle! There's the security guards, dressed in suits or bright orange safety jackets yelling at people to move each time a Mercedes-Benz tries to pass through. The confused tourists who probably just wanted see Somerset House and picked a bad (or extremely good) time to visit. My favourite was a woman who had security telling her the van she arrived in needed to move out of the way. In a stress-filled moment, she took out a box marked fragile from the van and slammed it right on the floor.

TLDR: these people have style, I have a long way to go, and I like taking creepy headless photos of people.

A Look Around New Row

Today I decided to go to New Row with a friend and try out the cakes at Sweet Couture. I was not disappointed with my marble cupcake, although I did prefer my friend's chocolate one (chocolate does win every time for me). I usually just go to New Row to get a hair cut but I had never really been into the tiny shops. I have to try New Row Coffee some time, which always seems to be busy, and La Gelatiera when it gets a bit warmer.

Wish List: Bags

I don't usually do posts like this but since it's hump day (why won't this week end?) I decided some online browsing would be a good way to cheer myself up. I was looking specifically at new bags since many of mine are getting a little old and looking to retire. These are some of my favourite high street picks at the moment. The Zara clutch is extremely tempting but the price tag means I'll be holding out until the sales for it.

London is currently in the depths of despair and misery (a.k.a. a tube strike). This is the part where I would brag that my commute was fine, but sadly it took me to a dull lecture. I should have just stayed at home.

Welcome To Night Vale Nails

Polishes: Barry M - silver foil effects, Etude House - black with sparkles. Designs made with a thin nail brush.

Welcome To Night Vale is a podcast where the news and events of fictional town Night Vale are reported. Night Vale is a friendly desert community where hooded figures roam, glowing clouds use mind control and a vague yet menacing government agency keep watch over people. There is also a dog park which you should not enter. Or look at.

The podcast my current obsession, so I based my nails on the logo and some of the characters. Instead of a purple background, I used silver because I have no idea where my purple polish went. Maybe the angels took them for a special mission or something...
